The Individual Learning Plan

Charanga and Young Sounds UK have developed a dynamic tool to support young people’s independent music learning and progression: the Individual Learning Plan, or ILP, for short.

The interactive resource helps young people take the lead on their own musical journeys by supporting their musical exploration, encouraging them to think about their musical interests and helping to spark conversations with their teachers.

How it works

At the heart of the ILP is the relationship between the music teacher and the student and how using the resource encourages a more personalised approach to progression. The ILP guides and prompts the student while allowing the teacher to tailor their lessons to an individual’s needs.

Young people access the ILP – alongside all other content and creative tools their teacher shares with them – in Yumu, our platform’s student-facing learning space. Once set up, learners can use the ILP to:

• Explore a comprehensive range of ideas for musical development
• Set goals with their teacher
• Track their progress
• Find musical events and opportunities local to them and much more

How can I access it?

All Charanga subscribers can create an ILP for their students when setting up a Student Group in My Workspace – a dedicated space on the Charanga platform where they organise their teaching resources.

Instrumental teachers can obtain a Charanga licence from their local Music Hub or Service or by emailing markcardy@charanga.com.
