Charanga has a strong track record of helping music services achieve their goals, and we understand that no two services are the same. Whether you're working across dense urban areas or in more rural settings, supporting specialist and non-specialist teachers, or developing peripatetic capacity alongside whole-class programmes, we have the tools, resources, and experience to help.
We know the pressures music services face: the need to reach more schools with the same or fewer staff, to encourage more young people to learn instruments and take part in musical activities, to support teachers who may have varying levels of confidence with digital technology, and to evidence impact for funders and local authorities. Our role is to make all of that easier.
The Charanga platform
At the heart of our partnership offer is Charanga's award-winning, cloud-based platform; one flexible enough to work across primary, secondary, SEND, and alternative provision settings, and designed to support both specialist and non-specialist teachers and practitioners.
Teachers can deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned music lessons through interactive tools, flexible schemes, and curriculum-aligned resources. Yumu, the platform’s secure student-facing workspace, allows teachers to set work, track progress, and support creativity in and outside the classroom. There’s no software to install; everything’s accessible on any device. Wraparound support ensures everyone gets the most from it.
Our music technology suite includes YuStudio®, an award-winning, cloud-based DAW that offers accessible composition and music production for students from Primary to GCSE and beyond. It works on tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks, connects seamlessly with USB MIDI devices and controllers, and is compatible with most accessible instruments. Students have access to industry-leading tools at the very start of their musical journey.
Evidencing impact
Demonstrating impact is increasingly important for music services – for funders, local authorities, and national bodies. We provide data and engagement insights from across our platform and CPD & Training programmes, giving you the evidence you need for reporting and impact evaluation. With dedicated support from Charanga’s Education and Technology teams, we can work with you to interpret and present this data in ways that are meaningful for your stakeholders.
Expert support
Mark Cardy, Charanga’s Education Director, has extensive knowledge of the UK’s music education landscape. He began his career as a brass teacher with Surrey Arts and Berkshire Maestros before working as a secondary music teacher, and subsequently holding senior positions as Head of Brass, Head of Whole Class Instrumental Teaching, and Senior Instrumental Leader at Surrey. Alongside his work with Charanga's partner music services, Mark oversees the organisation's CPD & Training programme, supporting teachers across the UK and beyond.
Recording artist and producer Max Wheeler, Charanga’s Head of Music Technology, has been a music educator for over 20 years, extensively working with young people with special educational needs and those unable to engage in mainstream education. YuStudio and other software are proprietary, making him the ideal conduit between you and Charanga’s software engineering team.
Across the wider Charanga team, you'll find extensive experience in music teaching, the music industry, and education at every level, across all genres and styles. From working with children and young people with special educational needs to gifted and talented young musicians and national ensembles, our team provides unparalleled insight and support.
