Charanga’s VIP Studio Sessions announced the first annual competition winner as Jake ‘JLB Subzero’, from Burnt Mill Academy in Essex. Jake produced the winning track, out of hundreds of entries from secondary school students across the UK.
Over the last academic year, tracks were submitted and monthly prize winners were selected by the team at VIP. The annual prize of a £500 music voucher for the school plus a £50 voucher of his choosing, went to the Burnt Mill Academy student, based on his use of production techniques using VIP’s online studio, the professional quality of the track and number of plays on Soundcloud.
The competition was open to all VIP schools across the UK with the aim to help encourage more young people to get into music production as a way of accessing music in their schools.
We also wanted to encourage students to finish songs to a standard where they are ready to be shared with friends and family, as well as the process of getting published online and promoted. The competition was a huge success, and a similar one will run throughout 2016/2017.
VIP Studio Session’s online studio and step-by-step guides are aimed at helping secondary schools to teach music production and songwriting in the classroom as well as at home. The online platform is designed so you can easily upload a track for teachers to mark and provide feedback to.
