Friday Afternoons is a nationwide singing project led by Aldeburgh Music, culminating on Britten’s birthday – 22 November 2013. The initiative, which forms part of Aldeburgh Music’s Britten Centenary programme and the worldwide Britten 100 celebrations, is based around the set of 12 Friday Afternoons songs that he composed for the school in Prestatyn where his brother was schoolmaster. If you want your pupils to be part of this unique project, and join tens of thousands of other young people across the UK to sing and to learn more about the composer, visit the website www.fridayafternoonsmusic.co.uk to find out about the project, and sign up to gain access to free resources, all designed to inspire and educate everybody involved.

Charanga will be supporting the initiative with online resources to support the rehearsal and performance of the songs. There will be six Units of Work, each unit containing two songs from the 12. There will be elements of composing, improvising, playing band/orchestral and classroom instruments, singing of course, and more, within each unit.

The Friday Afternoons website has resources which support the wider curriculum and is well worth a visit.
