The popular secondary music education programme VIP Studio Sessions has launched another new set of tutorials for secondary schools in the UK – Afrobeats. This new and exciting type of music, often requested by students, is growing in popularity in the UK charts.

Afrobeats started out mainly in West Africa (particularly Nigeria and Ghana) but  has now travelled all over the globe, with several successful artists making the style in London and other areas of the UK. Afrobeats combines African rhythms, electronic sounds and positive vibes in what is becoming a very successful formula.

Here’s an example of a popular song in this genre, Sweet Love, from Wizkid who said that the song is “an introduction” to those who don’t know him yet. “The visual is made up from content of my live shows throughout Africa, which will give my fans a real insight and feel of me performing back home” he said.

Here’s another take on the Afrobeats sound from Mr 2Kay, according to the ModernGhana website “The video weighs in on the need for people to never forget their humble beginnings. It emphasises on the need for people to appreciate every moment with their loved ones because anything can happen the next minute.”

This exciting new genre will join VIP’s successful set of tutorials, which include:

  • Grime
  • Pop
  • Hip Hop
  • House
  • Dubstep
  • Trap
  • Classical Beats
