We are very excited to share this brilliant rap video that features dozens of beats all made by young people in and out of school using VIP Studio Sessions – the winners of our 2017 Grime competition!
Back in May 2017, VIP started its search for the best Grime tracks produced by young people at VIP schools. Due to its popularity the competition was extended until October this year, and has been the most successful yet, with over 1000 entries across the country.
Last year we introduced the Step-by-Step Grime tutorials in VIP which show young people how to produce their own original music. The videos also teach the rhythms and ‘rules’ to make Grime music.
The genre is one of the most popular in VIP which reflects its popularity in the UK. Artists such as Stormzy and Skepta are topping the charts and Grime is fast becoming one of the most successful music exports of the time.
The competition’s winning beats were picked by famous YouTube Grime artist Eyez, who listened through all the submissions and chose his favourite tracks to rap over. The winners have been mixed together by VIP and turned into a fun rap video to share, which features names of some of the winning schools and raps about school life.
VIP Beat Tape
The winning tracks are also available as an online ‘Beat Tape’ for all VIP students to download, rap over and also for teachers to use in lessons.
You can download the Beat Tape as an MP3 from within VIP, and this can be used alongside a new step-by-step tutorial showing how to upload beats into the online studio and record raps or songs over them – a perfect way to enter the Artist of the Year competition as a rapper or singer!
